Pomegranate Wisdom Revealed
The end of September means prime Pomegranate season in California. This farmers market favorite has some incredible anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but do you know where these health benefits come from?
Read below for a little bit of #WellnessWednesday wisdom about Pomegranates and why you should always eat the seeds.
Within the skin and the juice of pomegranates are antioxidants called Punicalagins. They're water-soluble with high bioavailability, which makes them three times more powerful than green tea! They contain polyphenols called ellagitannins which are highly natural carbonic anhydrase inhibitors that can be used to treat altitude sickness, glaucoma and even gout!
That's just the juice and skin. If your nibbling on the pomegranate seeds, you're getting another benefit. The oil of the seeds contain Punicic Acid, which consists of complex fatty acids, 80% of which are Trienoc Acids. Studies have shown that the therapeutic and preventive biological properties of Punicic Acid can help the body fight against diabetes, obesity, heart disease and certain cancers.
So not only is the pomegranate delicious -- it's also disease-fighting. What a deal!
