The summer solstice is one of the most magical times of the year. Ancient cultures, religions and civilizations around the world celebrated the summer solstice in their own unique way with rituals. Cultures like the Vikings and Germanic, Slavic and Celtic pagans built huge bonfires to banish evil spirits and demons, while others gathered herbs and flowers.

Many of these festive traditions continue on today all over the world. Various Native American tribes still practice the same ceremonial rituals and sun dance, while “Viking” summer solstice festivals are popular in Iceland. In New York City, thousands of yogis come together to practice yoga in Time Square!

Spend time outdoors to bathe in the sun’s life-giving rays. Start your day by taking a few minutes to enjoy your morning coffee or tea outdoors.

Enjoy an Outdoors Activity

 If you typically hit the treadmill inside the gym or dance it up inside a studio, try it outside. Meet a workout buddy at a local park or nearby beach for a sweat and sun-filled workout session. Or look for an outdoor yoga, dance or even tai chi class. Just remember to wear sunscreen!

Light the Fire and Set Your Intentions

Indulge in the summer solstice’s fiery energy by lighting a fire, whether it’s an outdoors bonfire or your favorite citrus-scented candle. Use this moment to set your intentions for the rest of the year. Hold a sun-related crystal, like citrine, sunstone, or topaz to cultivate the sense of abundance and to express gratitude to the sun for its boundless love and life.
